Swine flu, at what level would you start to buy supplies?

Posted: May 24th, 2009 | Filed under: Acute Ilnesses | Tags: , , |

~~Penny~~ asked:

~ With the Swine flu one level from turning into a pandemic, how soon would you start to buy at least a 2 to 3 week supply of non perishables, and necessities ? What should we be buying and is 2 to 3 weeks worth enough? If this turns into a pandemic, it is possible that local stores will be so short handed, that they will be limited to store hours, deliveries can be delayed even come to a stand still if it does spread as fast as the CDC is expecting. I would just like to be prepared.

i might start stocking up at level 6. but i’m only 13 so that ability is out of my reach. knowing my family they wouldn’t care less and would spend their days in the garden and trying to find a store that’s open. lol

There is a belief that the disease takes two to three weeks to run its full course, whether or not you survive is the question. The disease could be incubated for weeks. There is no safe time to go into hiding.

I myself am quite concerned over this. I feel worried.

None, because it’s not a big deal.
    It’s media hype.
Their were people buying Gas Masks for the Bird Flu after they found 4 cases in china. It was a bunch of lunatics who went to go hide in bunkers because they thought the end of the world was neigh. It wasn’t.

If tons of people start dying and if their are more than 7 confirmed deaths of swine flu (That”s all their is confirmed.) And if people (Not like the boy who was from Mexico!) start to die rapidly in the U.S, then I would stock up.
But probably more like 4 weeks of food. I doubt the world will come to and end, don’t panic.

Do not look at the levels. Cases in your area mean the most. I was watching with a member of the CDC and they said it’s purely for government officials, doctors and scientist.
By the way level 6 means it has affected many communities in more than one country.

I would buy supplies for hibernation after one million people died. So only 999,894 more people need to die.

We always have those supplies. We live in earthquake country.

    All the best.
