Kukubird asked:
I am really freaked out that it's going to come to Washington. Someone threw up the other day, and everyone is coughing like nuts, it's really freaking me out, I don't like going to school because this guy keeps coughing on me on purpose and I am really scared as helllll from catching the swine flu.
What are the symptons that let you know if you have it?

The symptoms are flu like symptoms. Swine flu is just the flu. It wont kill you. The center for disease control and this site has more information on the subject.
Which should help put your mind at rest.

There are no particular symptoms that distinguish swine flu from other types of flu. Symtoms like diarrhea and vomiting are also associated with swine flu. Those symptoms can also be caused by many other conditions, and that means that you and your doctor can’t know, just based on your symptoms, The basic symptoms for swine flu are similar to the seasonal flu which may include:
* Fever of more than 100
* Coughing
* Runny nose and/or sore throat
* Joint aches
* Severe headache
* Vomiting and/or diarrhea
* Lethargy
* Lack of appetite
You wont catch the swine flu from pigs because the virus is one that is communicable through human-to-human contact. This virus has origins genetically from both pigs and birds, The swine virus mutates so that it can infect humans and be spread by humans. Unlike swine flu, Avian flu so far has had difficulty infecting humans unless they are exposed intensely to birds. Avian flu has not mutated in a way that makes it transmissible by humans to other humans.
The new swine flu virus apparently spreads just like regular flu and become airborne if infected person cough or sneeze without covering their nose and mouth, sending germs into the air. The virus is transmitted by saliva or droplets of sneezing from an infected person. You could pick up germs directly from an infected person, or by touching an object they recently touched, and then touching your eyes, mouth, or nose, delivering their germs for your own infection. Infected people can start spreading flu germs up to a day before symptoms start, and for up to seven days after getting sick, according to the CDC.
It is not a so-called foodborne illness. Bacon, ham and other pork products are safe to eat, assuming they are prepared properly. An internal temperature of 160 degrees for cooked meat will kill any bacteria or virus. Eating pork will not give you swine flu any more than eating chicken will give you bird flu.
Altogether, there are four anti-viral drugs that we commonly use to treat various strains of flu. Tamiflu or Relenza have shown to be effective against strains of swine flu. The CDC recommends those drugs to prevent or treat swine flu. The drugs are most effective when taken within 48 hours of the start of flu symptoms. But not everyone needs those drugs; many of the first people in the U.S. with lab-confirmed swine flu recovered without treatment.
There is no vaccine against the new swine flu virus. But the CDC and the World Health Organization are already taking the steps toward making such a vaccine.
Avoid close contact.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Stay away from hospitals unless you’re having an emergency, as hospitals could be one of the likeliest places you could be exposed to swine virus. Avoid visiting any public area unless it’s really necessary. Wear a mask when in crowded public places and when you go to the doctors. Skip public transportation. The Swine Flu Virus is spread through the air. Any place, such as a bus or plane, that causes you to be confined with others in a small place,
Practice other good health habits.
Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth. Wash your hands often, especially before, during, and after preparing food. Before you eat and after going to the bathroom. Use alcohol wipes to clean shopping carts handles, restaurant tables and high chairs.
Get Enough Rest.
Just like it becomes harder for you to get your daily tasks done if you’re tired, if your body is overly fatigued it will be harder for it to fight the flu. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress and drink plenty of fluids.
Eat Garlic Regularly
Garlic does more than make our food taste good, it can aid in the healing and even prevention of certain medical conditions. Studies have shown that garlic extract improves immune function, giving our natural defense system a boost, and helping it conserve our levels of antioxidants in our system. It is this strengthening of the immune system that aids in its support for other health related conditions.
Exercise
Exercise increase circulation of blood flow throughout your body. The components of your immune system are also better circulated, which means your immune system has a better chance of combating an intruders before it has a chance to cause havoc in your body. Exercising helps your immune system to be more efficient in weeding out and acting upon viruses and diseases.
Establish a healthy diet plan
Establish a consistent diet plan that consists of all your vitamins and minerals. Add diversity to your diet by way of implementing a variety of fruits, vegetables and other foods to promote general health and well being. Eat about 2 servings of yogurt, preferabl

swine flu
The swine flu symptoms are just like a regular flu, vomiting, heavy coughing, sneezing and in some cases, diarrhea. That is why if you get these symptoms its best for you to stay at home for a day or two b/c it might just be a regular flu, and if the symptoms do not go away/get worse then go see a doctor.
Don’t worry about it too much just yet, the cases have not gotten bad. There has only been one death and that was a 23 month old. :/
But the people who may need to worry more are the elders, infants and people with bad immune systems. Any questions feel free to contact me at

I was worried too but felt much better after reading this article:
Washing your hands is a good idea. Surprisingly, eating garlic does have antibiotic effects. Oh, and you can’t get swine flu from eating pork products. I hope this helps!
